Your Must-See Guide to Portugal’s Vibrant Capital

Lisbon is one of Europe’s most enchanting cities and one of my new favorites — where ancient history, colorful tile-covered streets, and modern culture meet. Whether you're visiting for the first time or returning for more pastel de nata and sunset views, here are the top 5 things you can’t miss in Lisbon.

1. 🏛️ Explore Belém & Try a Pastel de Nata

Belém is rich with Portugal’s maritime history and home to some of its most iconic landmarks. Visit the stunning Jerónimos Monastery, walk along the Tagus River, and treat yourself to the famous Pastéis de Belém — custard tarts that are mind-blowingly delicious!

2. 🚋 Ride Tram 28 Through the Alfama District

Jump aboard Lisbon’s most famous tram for a scenic journey through its oldest neighborhoods. Tram 28 clanks and curves through Alfama’s narrow lanes, offering views of churches, tiled buildings, and daily Lisbon life. The trams in Portugal are one of the iconic experiences of this city.

3. 🌇 Catch the Sunset from a Miradouro

Lisbon’s hills mean one big perk: incredible viewpoints! Known as miradouros, these lookout spots are perfect for sunset. Bring a drink and enjoy panoramic views of the city, the river, and the orange-tiled rooftops below.

4. 🍽️ Join a Portuguese Cooking Class

Take a hands-on cooking class and learn how to prepare some of Portugal’s most beloved dishes — like seafood rice, caldo verde, or flan. It’s a fun and delicious way to connect with local culture.

5. 🎶 Experience Live Fado Music

Fado is Portugal’s traditional soulful music — often performed in small, intimate restaurants. You’ll hear hauntingly beautiful vocals and classic guitar melodies that express longing, love, and Lisbon’s deep cultural roots.
